LITTLE PRELOUDES – 1998
Inside a flat in a residential building, a young girl is practicing J. S. Bach’s Little Prelude in D-minor on the piano. After she finishes playing the piece, we are successively transported into five neighbouring flats where the sound of the piano has simultaneously penetrated. In each of these spaces we meet a single occupant in a solitary activity that unfolds in exactly the same time-frame as the performance of the prelude and sends its own acoustic signals to the adjacent spaces. The five private monologues are thus interconnected, their narcissistic pathos and obsessive isolation injecting a dissonant counterpoint to the tenderness and lyricism of the musical composition

He starts off glamorously as a liftboy in a Parisian luxury hotel. But his charisma helps him, especially with women. The encounter with the hopelessly in love Marquis Louis de Venosta changes his life. They both love the same woman, the spirited and generous Zaza. Krull has to choose between social advancement and the love of his life. It is his insatiable urge for change that wins, and the exchange of identities that makes everything possible: Venosta being together with Zaza and Krull a high-society cruise. Before boarding, he delivers his masterpiece as an impostor at the Royal Court in Lisbon . . .
